São Sebastião Day

Saint Sebastian is a very popular saint and patron of the city of Rio de Janeiro, giving its name to the city of Sao Sebastiao do Rio de Janeiro.

Legend even claims that, in the final battle that ousted the French, who occupied Rio, São Sebastião was seen sword in hand among the Portuguese, mestizos and Indians, fighting the French Calvinists.

São Sebastião Day is a very special day to visit Paraty and the state of Rio de Janeiro, specially the famous Catedral Metropolitana de Sao Sebastiao do Rio de Janeiro.

The 7th edition of Paraty em Foco 2011 has opened inscription for the workshops. There is also a call for expositions to select projects for the festival.

The Paraty in Focus 2011 theme is #FUTURE. Future has always fascinated man. After discussing the present of the planet in the "Earth Inventories" [the theme of Paraty em Foco 2010], its logic that we look into what the future might bring, transforming the historic city in the territory of Pythias for one week. One inevitable debate will be on the future of photography and digital technologies, the other main topic is what the future world will look like. To discuss these issues we are inviting artists, photographers, thinkers and scientists to directly or indirectly discuss the future of images.
