São Sebastião Day

Saint Sebastian is a very popular saint and patron of the city of Rio de Janeiro, giving its name to the city of Sao Sebastiao do Rio de Janeiro.

Legend even claims that, in the final battle that ousted the French, who occupied Rio, São Sebastião was seen sword in hand among the Portuguese, mestizos and Indians, fighting the French Calvinists.

São Sebastião Day is a very special day to visit Paraty and the state of Rio de Janeiro, specially the famous Catedral Metropolitana de Sao Sebastiao do Rio de Janeiro.
